Are you happy? Most of the time, we make it hard to enjoy our lives by pursuing something that seems impossible. Happiness is possible for us all. First, we have to define what happiness is, and then reframe it if necessary.
For many, they have never-ending restrictions. I know this because I did so. I would think if only this would happen then I will finally be happy. When the great event happened, however, I didn't take the time to enjoy the moment. I just added another restriction and continued to dream of something I would never attain.
In my view, happiness is not an event nor a person. It is not a material thing, success, nor money. For me, it is gratitude. When I find the feeling of gratitude, then I find the joy. I don't make it complicated, nor take it out of my own control. I don’t put my ability to be joyful in someone else's hands.
Every day I look for things to be thankful for. I take a moment to enjoy the sunrise and sunset and give as many smiles and hugs as I can in one day. If I can’t be happy with what already have, then I wouldn’t be happy with more. I love finding the joy in simple things. When we remove the unnecessary limitations and expectations from our lives, then we open our hearts to receive more.
Recording my blessings in a gratitude journal helps me to see my life with new understanding. When I take time to thank God for all the blessing I have, I realize that I have everything that I need. I don’t spend much of my life complaining and crying about what I don’t have. Instead, I am grateful for what I have. When I change my thought process and feel gratitude. The greatest gifts in life can't be bought, or even be seen — they must be felt in our hearts.

At one time, about 300 native languages were spoken on the Australian continent. Only about 90 of them are still spoken today.
European settlers arrived in Australia in the late 1700s. Experts say that colonization had a harmful effect on native languages. Now, only about 60 of them are considered “alive” and in daily use. As older members of tribes die, other languages are likely to pass away.
In the central Australian desert, only 20 people are fluent in Pertame, a language native to the area. But now, children are being taught its ancient words in hope that it won't die out.
Bradshaw and Swan are among the native elders working to keep Pertame alive. Swan has published language books on Pertame. She is one of the last remaining fluent speakers of the language and founder of the Pertame School, opened two years ago.
Bradshaw is a teacher at the school. Children at the school not only learn the language, they also cook traditional food and learn history. “Our old people have all passed away. There are only a few of us left to teach our kids how our old people used to live. ” said Bradshaw.
According to community leaders, for many years, they were forbidden to speak their native language. Bradshaw recalls one of her experiences as a child, “The teacher walked past saying, ‘Don’t speak that language at school.’ We promised ourselves we would talk it in secret to keep it going. People don’t understand how important it is for Aboriginal (土著人的) people.”
In some schools in northern Australia, students learn in both English and an Aboriginal language. Many communities speak what is called “Aboriginal English”. It keeps some structures of Standard English and includes words from Aboriginal languages.
【1】How many native languages are used in Australia nowadays?
A.20. B.60.
C.90. D.300.

Researchers from Stockholm University, the Institute for Future Studies, and the University of South Carolina teamed up to find out if generosity really pays off. The results, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, reveal that unselfish people tend both to have more children and earn higher salaries than selfish people.
“The result is clear in both the American and the European data. The most unselfish people have the most children and the moderately (适度地) unselfish receive the highest salaries. And we also find this result over time: the people who are most generous at one point in time have the largest salary,” explains Kimmo Eriksson, a researcher at the Centre for Cultural Evolution at Stockholm University and one of the authors of the study.
Previous psychological and sociological (社会学的) research has shown that selfless people feel happier and have better social relationships, but scientists can now see the benefits of generosity in other areas of life including income and fertility (生育能力).
“The results of this study showed that people generally have the correct expectation that selfish people have fewer children, but erroneously believe that selfish people will make more money. It is nice to see that generosity so often pays off in the long run says Pontus Strimling, a researcher at the Institute for Futures Studies and co-author behind the study.
The researchers believe that prosocial (亲社会的) behaviors help generous people in succeeding from an economic perspective. Although the study does not definitively answer this question, it makes sense that unselfish people, who tend to give their time and energy more willingly to help others would thrive (兴旺) in business relationships and teamwork settings. On the other hand, acting in self-interest has poorer outcomes including lower incomes.
Co-author, Brent Simpson of the University of South Carolina adds, Future research will have to explore deeper into the reasons why generous people earn more and look at whether the link between unselfishness, higher salaries, and more children also exists in other parts of the world.
【1】What do the researchers find in the study?
A.Selfish people prefer to do better jobs.
B.Selfish people want to have more children.
C.Generous people actually earn more money.
D.Generous people are willing to pay off their debts.
【2】What does the underlined word “erroneously” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Wrongly. B.Certainly.
C.Firmly. D.Usually.
【3】Which of the following would the researchers agree to?
A.Selfish people tend to make others to be successful.
B.Unselfish people enjoy working with others in a group.
C.Selfish people devote more time and energy to their job.
D.Unselfish people prefer to finish their jobs on their own.
【4】What will the researchers study in the future?
A.Why generous people are more popular.
B.Why being generous have better outcomes.
C.If unselfishness leads to better pay and productivity.
D.Whether generosity pays off in other parts of the world.

How to Keep a Positive Attitude Around Negative People
You are a basically happy person and try to make an effort to stay positive. But the people you work with are so negative. How to keep your positive attitude when surrounded by negative people? 【1】
First attempt to understand what you are really up against. Observe what is actually happening. What are the words, the actions, the tone of voice, the facial expressions?
【2】 Are you sure? While negative words and actions are always unpleasant to be around, it is helpful to distinguish among those cases in which someone has simply fallen into the bad habit of negative talk, times when they have brought a past upset into the present? and the most difficult moments when they are actively hostile to the current situation.
【3】 Even when negative talk is directed toward you, don’t take it personally. Negativity is basically selfishness, and their selfishness is about them, not about you. But this is very difficult to put into practice. When you are the target of the other person’s complaints, and especially their sarcasm, it is very hard not to take it personally. Try, however, to remain objective, and don’t take it personally.
【4】No person or situation is 100% negative. Make a list of everything that is positive about the person or situation. Keep writing until you have compiled a meaningful list. Then give thanks for all that is positive.
Consider how you can cheer up the negative person. 【5】Even give them a note of appreciation or a gold star? Inquire about their family? Be supportive of their troubles without either agreeing or offering suggestions? However, if your attempts to befriend someone create more hostility, stop. There is no point in doing anything to annoy them further.
A.Think positively.
B.Don’t take it personally.
C.Have gratitude for what is positive.
D.Can you praise co-worker on a task well done?
E.Try the following tips, you will always stay positive.
F.What emotions do you sense behind the words and actions?
G.It is important to be aware of the harmful effects of being negative.
