Where did you buy your last book? Chances are that you bought it on the Internet. But if you did, you missed the unusual experience of browsing in a real bookstore. These days bookstores offer lots of great books and plenty more.
Taipei’s Eslite Dunnan Store
Time magazine once named Eslite Dunnan Store in Taipei "Asia's best bookstore!". One visit to the store tells you why. The store, spreading across five floors, offers a combination of restaurants, music and over 200,000 books. With its comfortable reading spots, visitors sometimes say it's like a library. Others have called it the “7-Eleven of bookstores” because it's open 24hours a day.
Saraiva Bookstore
Rio de Janeiro's Saraiva Bookstore might be the world's most colorful bookstore. The visible upper level is lined with books all ranged by their colors. This rainbow effect provides a colorful greeting for shoppers as they arrive. A rainbow path also leads young readers into the children's section.
Book Garden
The world's biggest bookstore is Tehran, Iran's Book Garden with 700,000 square feet of space. In addition to restaurants and a theater, the Book Garden features a park on the roof.
Libreria Acqua Alta
Venice, Italy, is a city surrounded by water. It seems only right then that one of its most interesting bookstores is Libreria Acqua Alta. Its books are displayed in all things related to water such as boats, bathtubs and more.
Whether you enjoy reading inside or outside, there is always an interesting bookstore to be discovered.

I'm not the type of person that enjoy going to the supermarket, but every now and again I do help out with the shopping. As I know, that's part of being in a team. The problem is that unlike my wife who only buys the necessities, I buy like there is going to be natural disaster and we are planning for no tomorrow.
One day, when 1 arrived at home, I carried every single bag from the car to the kitchen in one go. I should have known it would be unachievable but I thought the more I could do on this trip, the fewer trips I would have to make.
As a competitive person, I wanted to do everything in one trip because in my mind, it’s more productive. As you can imagine, it ended in disaster. Two of the bags ended up being crushed(压变形) with a loaf of bread and broken eggs inside.
It reminded me of my time as a head teacher. Every evening, my teachers would walk past my office on the way to the car park with their arms full of things, unable to even give a quick wave out of fear of dropping something.
Like most schools, it isn’t uncommon for my teachers to fit another day’s work in during the evening. In schools, we have this crazy idea that our performance is often measured by how many programs we can carry out, how long we are at school and what time we sit up working until.
Now, it’s too hard to say ‘no’ with the increasing pressure and expectation placed on us. But what I’m going to say is that unlike when I carried every single bag from the car in one hit, maybe we should be better off putting some things down and doing the job properly.
Whether you’re a head teacher or a classroom teacher, it’s a time reminder that we should pay attention to how effective we are, not how much we can do. Maybe I should have taken my own advice and my family would have been able to enjoy their eggs and bread.

As the world's population continues to increase, so does the amount of global waste. According to data (数据) collected by the World Bank Group, nations are on pace to produce 4 billion tons of waste every year by 2100. Many experts are calling the problem of global waste a worldwide health crisis (危机) because the waste is polluting the world’s oceans, air and soil and is putting the health of all living things in danger.
For years, governments have been telling citizens that living a zero-waste lifestyle is the way to go. Now some stores are helping people do that.
Most grocery stores produce waste when they throw away food and packing material. In some cases, the food consists of fruit and vegetables that don’t look good any more. In other cases, it's packaged food that is nearing the "sell-by" date printed on the package. After the “sell-by” date passed, the food is not considered safe to eat. Thus, many stores throw out unsold packaged food before that date arrives.
To solve this problem, business people are opening smaller grocery stores. Instead of selling food in packages, these stores offer it in open containers (容器). Customers bring their own bags or clean containers to the store. There, they fill their bags or containers with everything from nuts and grains to oil and vinegar. They pay for only the amount of each product that they need. Zero-waste stores often sell fruit and vegetables as well. When these goods start to look old, they're sold at a cheaper price or given to the poor people. Inspired by these smaller zero-waste grocery stores, some large supermarkets are taking similar steps to reduce the amount of waste that they produce.

Raelene Heldt, a friend of my grandmother, if she were alive today, would never be able to deal with a visit to the modern supermarket, especially endless kinds of milk. It would be too much for her. She’d feel cheated. Because back in her day, in India, she was known among the vendors(商贩) who went selling their wares from door-to-door.
You had to bring her the genuine article(真货), or you simply would not receive her custom(惠顾). In the 60s, custom was a huge thing. “She had a way with people,” my granny used to say. “If you mess with her, you get told off and never ever again enjoy her custom.’
The freshest fish, the best meat, the juiciest … they all went to Raelene first and only after she’d had her pick was the rest taken to be sold to others. How did this all come about? Well, it began with the milkman.
The milkman made his rounds around the colony with a huge can of milk on his bicycle. Raelene’s house happened to be at the milkman’s run. Once he got there, he’d take the bowl placed outside the Raelene’s door and measure a litre of milk. In most cases, it was just a routine business exchange.
However, one day, Raelene happened to be drinking tea at her friend Jill’s place. The milk in the cup was so thick it gave the tea such a rich taste. “Show me your milk, Jill,” said Raelene. Jill let her have a look. And something things in her mind.
Jill happened to live at the very head of the village so she got the first delivery(递送) of milk, which was very good, pure, thick. But by the time the milk reached Raelene’s door, it had water added.
This Raelene found out about. And once “the cat was out of the bag”, Raelene said to the milkman, “If you want to keep my custom, you’ll bring your cow with you to my door and milk it right before my eyes. Otherwise, I’m not interested.”
And you know what? The milkman agreed. Those were, indeed, different times.

【3】How did the milkman treat Raelene later?
A.He gave her a cow. B.He tried to avoid her.
