My mother used to ask me what the most important part of the body is. Through the years I would take a guess at what I thought was the correct answer. When I was younger, I thought sound was very important to us as humans, so I said: “My ears, Mommy.” She said: “No. Many people are deaf. But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon.” Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my first attempt, I had contemplated the correct answer. So this time I told her: “Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes.” She looked at me and told me: “You are learning fast, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind.”

Mother asked me a couple more times and always her answer was “No. But you are getting smarter every year, my child.” Then last year, my grandpa died. Everybody was hurt. Everybody was crying. My mom looked at me when it was our turn to say our final goodbye to grandpa. She asked me: “Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?”

I was shocked when she asked me this now. She told me: “This question is very important, especially at this moment. How you answer it can truly shows whether you have learned about life. For every body part you gave me in the past, I have told you were wrong and I have given you an example why. But today is the day you need to learn this important lesson.”

I saw her eyes well up with tears. She said: “My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder.” “Is it because it holds up my head?” I asked. “ No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or a loved one when they cry,” she replied:“ Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in life, my dear. I only hope that you have enough love and friends that you will always have a shoulder to cry on when you need it.”

In order to help customers find what they want quickly, it's important to keep the thousands of titles in the Main Street Movies store organized properly. This section will tell you how to organize videos.

Each Main Street Movies store has three main sections:

1. New Releases Wall

2. Film Library

3. Video Games

New Releases Wall. Almost 70 percent of movie rentals (租赁) are new releases, and that is the first place that most customers go when they enter the store. The center section of shelves on this wall holds Hottest Hits. When new titles come into the store, place them on this wall in alphabetical (字母的) order. After 30 days, move the Hottest Hits titles to the shelves on either side called Recent Releases, again in alphabetical order. Titles stay on these shelves eight to ten months before being moved to Film Library shelves.

Film Library. Thousands of titles in the Film Library are organized into categories (类别). The films within each category are displayed alphabetically. Here are the categories and their two-letter computer codes:

AC

Action

CO

Comedy

FL

Foreign Language

CH

Children

DR

Drama

SC

Science Fiction

CL

Classics

FA

Family

SI

Special Interest

Video Games. Games in our store are also arranged together, in alphabetical order. Although video games represent only a small percentage of our inventory ( 存货), they are stolen more often than any other type of videos in our store. Therefore, video games are never displayed on the shelves. Shelves in the Video Games section hold

cards with pictures and information about each game. When a customer wants to rent a particular game, he or she will bring you the card. You then get the game from the locked case behind the counter ( 柜台), and file the card in the “Video Game Rentals” box. When the game is returned, you put the card back on the appropriate shelf so that it is available for another customer.

The common cold is the world's most widespread illness, which is a serious infection that man receives.

The most widespread mistake of all is that colds are caused by cold. They are not. They are caused by viruses passing on from person to person. You catch a cold by touching directly or indirectly, with someone who already has one. If cold causes colds, it would be reasonable to expect the Eskimos to suffer from them forever. But they do not. And in separate Arctic (北极的)areas, explorers have reported being free from colds until touching again with infected people from the outside world by way of packages and mail dropped from airplanes.

During the First World War, soldiers who spent long periods in the trenches, cold and wet, seldom caught colds.

In the Second World War, prisoners at Auschwitz concentration camp, bare and starved, were astonished to find that they seldom had colds.

At the Common Cold Research Unit in England, volunteers took part in experiments in which they gave themselves to the discomforts of being cold and wet for a long time. After taking hot baths, they put on bathing suits, allowed themselves to be with cold water, and then stood about dripping wet in a room. Some wore wet socks all day while others exercised in the rain until close to exhaustion. Not one of the volunteers came down with a cold unless a cold virus was actually dropped in his nose.

If then, cold and wet have nothing to do with catching colds, why are they more frequent in winter? Despite the most hard research, no one has yet found out the answer. One explanation offered by scientists is that people tend to stay together indoors more in cold weather than at other times, and that makes it easier for cold viruses to be passed on.

No one has yet found a cure for the cold. There are drugs and pain-killers such as aspirin, but all that they do is to reduce the symptoms.

28.The writer thinks the cause of catching cold is due to_______.

A. touching anyone directly          B. touching anyone indirectly

C. cold weather                   D. getting viruses from person to person

29. Arctic explorers may catch colds when___.

31. The passage mainly discusses___.

A. the experiments on the common cold      B. the mistake about the common cold

C. the reason and the way people catch colds  D. the continued spread of common colds

Many of us know what it feels like to be an outsider in high school. Some give in to the pressure to fit in; others remain "on the bottom of the social food chain"  However, Alexandra Robbins, the author of the book The Geeks Shall Inherit The Earth believes what makes people unpopular in high school, mainly an unwillingness to obey, tends to translate into success as an adult.

Robbins has spent the past decade analyzing the behavior of high school students. She found the things that make a student different make them a target. But in adulthood and outside of the school setting, the things "that make you different make you interesting, fun, and often successful," she told the UK’s Daily Mail. She researched the qualities that people found most valuable in adults. The top qualities are: creativity, free-thinking, vision, authenticity, self-awareness, honesty, curiosity, love of learning, and courage. "Those are qualities that are far more likely to be found in school outsiders than in the popular kids," she said.

According to Robbins, when people are in with a popular crowd, they are more likely to hide aspects of their identity in order to fit into the group. As she put it to Yahoo. corn, "You are more likely to have goals of social dominance (强势) rather than forming actual true friendships. You are more likely to let other people pressure you into doing things. None of those things is admirable or useful as adults. " Meanwhile, in the eyes of Robbins, the outsiders are much more self-aware and much braver than the popular students. They are brave because they are sticking to being themselves in a challenging environment.

There are many celebrity examples of progress from unpopularity to later fame. Hollywood director Steven Spielberg was laughed at for being Jewish in high school. JK Rowling, author of hugely, popular Harry Potter. was teased in school as a glasses-wearing, child who lived mostly in books and daydreams. Robbins encourages students to participate in out-of-class activities. "They will automatically meet people with similar tastes," she told Daily Mail.

32. According to Robbins, what can make a student a target in high school?

A. Difference to others.                            B. Pressure to fit in.

 C. Unwillingness to obey.                  D. Behavior of high school students.

33. Which quality is NOT considered to be valuable in adults?

A. Being creative. B. Being authentic.  C. Being different.  D. Being curious.

34. Why do popular kids tend to be not as successful as outsiders?

 A. They may have goals of forming actual true friendships.

 B. They may hide aspects of their identity to fit in.

 C. They may force others into doing things.

 D. They may stick to being themselves in the society.

35. Which of the following statements is true?

 A. Young people who are outside are successful as adults.

 B. JK Rowling is one of celebrities of unpopularity.

 C. Unpopular students develop skills while the popular don't.D. Robbins encourages young people to be themselves.

How to Manage Your Phone’s Data Use

Smart phones give you access to a wealth of information and media, but most networks put a limit on the amount of data you can use each month. A typical phone contract(合约)includes a data allowance of between 500MB and 10GB per month.  36   You see, your usage can mount up surprisingly quickly—watching a film on the phone is about 700MB in SD, an hour of streaming TV is around 500MB or 60-140MB for the same of radio, chatting on Skype for an hour is around 40MB.  37

If possible, wait until you can connect to free Wi-Fi before using your phone’s data.

When you are on the road, use your car’s GPS, not your phone, to find your way.   38   But maps are preloaded in a GPS, making this free to use.

39     Many of these are funded by ads that pop up on your screen. Every ad has to download through your network, using up your data allowance.

If you regularly need to use a lot of data on your phone, consider a data-compressing(压缩)app, such as Onavo (www.onavo.com).   40    So you use less of your monthly allowance. You may have to subscribe to such compression services, so you will need to weigh up whether it’s worth the cost.

A. The more data, the higher the monthly cost.

B. Remember to use free Wi-Fi anywhere you go.

C. Try these tips to better manage your data usage.

D. It compresses (压缩) data before it is fed to your phone.

E. But you might end up paying more than expected.

F. The phone has to download map data as you move.

G. Be careful of how many “free” games you play on the move.

What could be more interested than seeing a horse adopt a little lamb? It happened on the Australian farm. The lamb, which mother had passed away, was taking good care of by the mother horse. The farm owner was such shocked by the unlikely relationship. She couldn’t believe her eye when she saw the horse be feeding the lamb for the first time. Despite having a baby of it own, the horse allowed the lamb live with it. Both of the little animals were deep loved by the mother, who would stand watching while the babies fell asleep.
