The black taxi or cab is one of the most famous symbols in London. In the 17th century, London saw its first black cabs but these were very different from today’s vehicles because they were pulled by horses.    However, their influence is still felt today because in 1679, the British government passed a law requiring all vehicles to pass a test to make sure they were safe for passengers. This law is still in force today.
