    Visiting a festival abroad can be a great reason to travel and a way to experience different cultures. These days there is such a number of choices that it's possible to spend the whole summer watching live music in exciting places. Of course, it's also a chance to meet people from across the world.

    Melt! Festival, Germany

    This festival takes place in an open air museum. There's also a lake which can be used for swimming when it's hot. This year's line-up has over 120 different bands (乐队) . Around 90% of the people attending the festival are German, providing a perfect chance to practise speaking the language.

    Exit Festival, Serbia

    Set on the banks of the Danube in an old fortress (城堡) , the festival began as a way to show people's dissatisfaction with the government. These days it's less political (政治的) but still worries about people who are poor, ill, old, etc and tries to help them. This year's festival will invite many famous bands. From electronic music and dance music to hard rock, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

    Open'er Festival, Poland

    Held in an airfield near the northern city of Gdansk, each year Open'er has a seriously good selection of bands.

    This year is no exception, with many famous bands set to play. Not only are there amazing artists, but both Poland and the festival itself also provide very excellent value for money.

    Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival，Scotland

    Set on a Scottish estate (庄园) near Inverness, this year Belladrum will welcome artists from around the world.

    The most enjoyable part of the weekend is the ceilidh (traditional Scottish dance and party) which is always a lively event. It doesn't even matter if you're a beginner because the band teaches you each dance.

    Michael Jackson was on the road of performing when he was five years old. As is known to all, the road to fame and fortune is a long, hard one.

    Michael remembered those early years when he was young. "My father was a machine operator," he explained, "and he worked at a steel plant. My mother worked at Sears, a big department store. But they were both musicians."

    Michael's father Joe Jackson realized his sons had a lot of talent, and he knew he could train them to become fine musicians. In those days there were plenty of music groups and some of them were very good. He knew if his sons were to stand out, they would have to be the best.

    Practice makes perfect. And they practiced! Gradually the group took shape. Then word of this group began to get around. Thus Michael got a chance to do some solo (独唱) songs. In the following years, Michael was always on the top. One million records of his were sold in New Zealand, which has only a total population of three million!

    When Michael was eighteen, he entered another field of his career (生涯) —acting. "I plan to star in movies," he told his friends, "but of course, my first love is music."

    Michael wrote a lot of his own songs. "Songs came about in the strangest ways," he said. "I'll just wake up from sleeping and there is a whole song coming into my head. And then I put it down on the paper."

    Still, with all his success, Michael managed to keep his head calm. "I just do a different job from other people," he said, "but it doesn't make me think I'm better than other people."

    To be quite honest, his fans just love to hear and watch him!

    After a five - year pause, the Billboard Music Awards officially returned to the United States. Two of the big winners at this year's Billboard Music Awards were Rihanna and Taylor Swift. But a major symbol of the show's popularity came from others such as Beyonce, U2, the Black Eyed Peas, and First Lady Michelle Obama.

    This year marks the Billboard Music Awards' rebirth. The Billboard Music Awards had been a big event since 1989, but the award in 2006 seemed to be its last award.

    This year the show was brought back in Las Vegas, broadcast live on ABC, and hosted by "The Hangover 2" star Ken Jeong. However, like many other award shows, the three - hour awarding ceremony served more as a marketing tool for today's pop stars than an award presentation.

    The show was packed with fans. Cee-Lo Green floated in the air with his piano. Surprising duets (二重唱) between Rihanna and Britney Spears, and this year's Billboard Icon Award winner, Neil Diamond made the fans sing along to "Sweet Caroline" and "America".

    Rihanna's two wins were Radio Artist of the Year and Top Female Artist. Taylor Swift won the evening's first award, as Top Album Artist, as well as Top Country Artist.

    Beyonce received a special "Millennium" Award for her career achievements. The 29-year-old star was praised in a video by a series of other stars, including Lady Gaga and Michelle Obama. She also performed her new song, "Run the World".

    The Billboard Music Awards are given to the most popular artists in the mainstream music scene. The finalists and winners are determined by their rank in the Billboard charts.

    Move More

    Make it a rule to find ways to move your body.  Climb stairs instead of taking the elevator. Walk your dog; play with your kids. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym or a 45-minute dance class. But that's great when you're up to it. At the same time, move more.

    Quit Smoking

    Ever since 1960 when it was announced that smoking was harmful to health, Americans have been reducing their use of tobacco products. Just recently, we've seen more and more teens smoking. Could it be the influence of Hollywood?  Take care! Warn your children against smoking.

    While recent studies show a glass of wine or one drink a day can help protect against heart disease, more can cause other health problems such as liver (肝) disease and kidney (肾) disease.

    Reduce Stress

    Easier said than done, stress comes in many ways.  Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like such as walking on the beach or in a park, reading a good book, visiting a friend, listening to relaxing music, and watching a funny movie.

    Protect Yourself From Pollution

    If you can't live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke-filled rooms.  Exercise indoors in air conditioning when air quality is not good.

    I was invited to attend a presentation at the Kentucky School. That evening I found gratitude had amazing 1 to change our attitudes and our lives.

    When it comes to Chinese students considering studying in foreign countries, many of them usually believe that life will be easy and enjoyable.  (fortunate), it's likely that students with those ideas will be disappointed soon after landing at the airport. So what are the problems you may have, and how can you deal with them? Teaching and learning styles in America are very different from  in China,  require more critical thinking and cooperation. Discussions and  (argue) are very common in a normal American classroom. Don't be observer. Try to participate  them actively. Apart from coursework, another important issue faced by overseas students is homesickness or loneliness. You may miss your parents' cooking, your pets, or even your bed. Being away from home can create bitter feelings, especially when  (face) with the challenges of getting used to an unfamiliar environment. What I suggest is to try hard to deal with these feelings. Be open to new friendships,  they can't replace the family and friends you miss. Sign up for campus activities, and give yourself permission to enjoy life on campus, even if you miss home a lot. Be organized and keep a diary to check your progress.

    It is never simple  (study) abroad. In fact, there will be many difficulties daily.

    I am a mother of three children and have recently completed my college degree.

    The last class I had to take was sociology (社会学). The teacher offered inspiring teaching that I wish every human could be graced with. Her last project of the term was called "Smile". The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions.

    I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway, so I thought this would be a piece of cake. Soon after we were given the project, my husband, the youngest son, and I went out to McDonald's in a cold morning. It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son. We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did.

    I did not move a bit. A strong feeling of fear turned up as I turned to see why they had moved. As I turned around, I smelled a terrible "dirty body" smell, and standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was "smiling". His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of hope as he searched for acceptance.

    He said, "Good day!" as he counted the few coins he had been holding. The second man was obviously mentally disabled. I held my tears as I stood there with them.

    The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, "Coffee is all, Miss," because that was all they could afford (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. They just wanted to be warm.)

    Then I really felt the desire was so great that I almost reached out my hands and hugged the little man with the blue eyes.
