My Summer Trip
Three American boys share with us their travelling experiences over the past summer.
City of light
Brandon Ramirez, Missouri
I recently had one of the most amazing adventures of my life. After my aunt moved to Paris, France, my parents and I traveled across the world to visit her. It was a very long flight, but I was excited. We visited all the major sights in Paris. I was amazed by the city's beauty. At night, it was even more incredible. The city's magnificent lights all reach up into the darkness. I felt I had never been so happy.
Heading east
Jack Stickler, California
My friends and I all love adventure. We are always looking for new places to explore. Recently, we went on one of our most unforgettable trips. The location? The Eastern Sierra(内华达山脉东侧). Flying there took a long time, but it's worth it. The Eastern Sierra is huge. There are many places to explore. We visited the Museum of Western Film History. There are lots of interesting exhibits from movies like Iron Man. If you are looking for a real adventure, I recommend a trip to the Eastern Sierra.
Kayak(独木舟)fright
Lance Borden, Texas
Last summer, I went camping in Indiana with my family. We were going kayaking, and it was my first time. I felt extremely nervous, but I tried to think positive. Once I got in the boat, it rocked so much. Every time it swayed(摇摆)to one side, I thought I was going to fall into the river. But after I calmed down and learned some kayaking skills, I started enjoying myself. I can't wait to go kayaking again!
Monday, July 15th
I arrived in Pengang in Malaysia this morning with my family. It was sunny and hot. So we decided to go to the beach near our hotel. My sister and I tried paragliding. I felt like I was a bird. It was so exciting! For lunch, we had something very special –Malaysian yellow noodles. They were delicious! In the afternoon, we rode bicycles to Georgetown. There are a lot of new buildings now, but many of the old buildings are still there. In Weld Quay, a really old place in Georgetown, we saw the houses of the Chinese traders from 100 years ago. I wonder what life was like here in the past. I really enjoyed walking around the town.
Beijing is very different from Hong Kong. In Beijing there are so many o spaces, while in Hong Kong there are high b everywhere! In Beijing, it is cold in the morning, gets w in the afternoon and becomes cool in the e. But in Hong Kong, it's so humid (潮湿的) that you can't really feel the changing weather!
We stayed in a very comfortable four-star hotel c "Holiday Inn". We went to the Summer Palace (颐和园), the Forbidden City (故宫), Jing Shan Park, Tian'anmen Square and the Great Wall. They even enjoy a Hu Tong Tour on a rickshaw (黄包车)!
Thinking about going camping? You might want to try one of these campsites!
Le Val de Cantobre,Aveyron(France)
France's number-one campsite is in the Grands Causses Regional Park. There's a swimming pool, a river and a pizza restaurant all on-site. The scenery around the park is beautiful and great for walking. A day here will cost you about €45.
Three Cliffs Bay, Gower (Wales)
The Three Cliffs Bay is in a beautiful part of the country, and it won't cost you much either: a tent (帐篷) is about €28 a day. There's a shop and some restaurants nearby. You can water-ski from the beach, or go walking along the Gower Way.
Playa Montroig Camping Resort, Tarragonna (Spain)
This Spanish campsite is great for a family trip, with prices starting from about €20 a night. You'll be able to enjoy the beach by day, and learn about historic Tarragonna in the evenings. The site has restaurants and also offers lots of activities for adults and children.
Four Seasons Tented Camp, Golden Triangle (Thailand)
This must be one of the most expensive campsites in the world. Instead of tents, there are" canvas cabins" (帆布小屋). Plus, there's a nice restaurant, a spa and a pool. There are only 15 cabins so you'll have to book early. You can only reach the camp by river boat, but once there you can learn to ride an elephant. One night here will cost you about €50!
Have fun and we hope it doesn't rain!

In the Chinese restaurant of Chefchaouen, one of the, top tourist attractions(旅游景点) in Morocco, an area of less than 100 square meters was full of more than a hundred Chinese tourists, with a lot more waiting outside, during the Chinese Spring Festival.

Another Chinese restaurant owner in Fes, Morocco's central city, had the same experience. The waiters said during the Spring Festival, a large number of Chinese tourists waited in lines for meals every day.
In the southem Moroccan town of Marrakech, tourist buses full of Chinese tourists can be found everywhere during the Spring Festival.

On my recent trip to Sydney with my parents, we visited the Wildlife Park.
The Wildlife Park has lots of different animals and birds. Some are native to Australia and can only be found there. There are over 600 animals there, including kangaroos, koalas and crocodiles. They are kept in their natural environment. I like the Wildlife Park better than a zoo because most animals are in cages in the zoo.
We first spent some time with the kangaroos. We were allowed to touch and feed them. It was very exciting to be so close to them. There were koalas there too. They looked very lovely. Although we were not allowed to carry them, I got to take a photo with one. It is a wonderful souvenir(纪念品)of my holiday in Sydney.
The Wildlife Park has plenty of fresh water and saltwater crocodiles. Some of them are really scary with huge teeth! I didn't want to get too close to them.
I watched a bird show as well. The keepers showed us different species they had. I saw an old parrot which could "talk". It made a great impression on me.
There was so much to see. I felt so excited about the trip.
A. flew to B. was wonderful C. but D. took quite a few photos E. because F. took the train to G. go shopping. |

Last summer my family went camping by a lake in the countryside. There we put up our tents and made a fire to keep us warm and cook food. On the first night, we sat under the moon and told each other stories.
The next morning, my sister and I got a terrible surprise. When we looked out of our tent, we saw a big snake sleeping near the fire. I was so scared that I couldn't move. We shouted to our parents to let them know about the danger. My dad started to jump up and down in their tent. This woke the snake up and it moved into the forest near the lake. My dad told me later that snakes don't have ears but can feel things moving. He also told me it was important not to go near a snake. This was a very useful lesson to me.
Emma has just finished travelling alone in Europe. Are you interested in her journey? Let's read some of her travel diaries.
I still remember the first time I left home for several(几个)(night). I was going to a summer camp for a month. When my parents told me about the camp, I was(excite), because there were lots of activities there.
The whole family drove me to camp. When we arrived, I saw a lot of kids, I didn't know anyone. I began to feel nervous. They gave me a little card my name on it. Then a girl, who looked (old) than me, came up to me and said," Well, Margie, goodbye. Have great time. And don't worry, we'll write to often. "
I had an awful feeling. I wanted (cry). But just then another girl of my age came up to me and (say), "Hi, are you Margie? I'm Tammy. My cabin is in the pines. Come on. Let's go to see the horses. "
So we went and I had a (wonder) month at the camp.

Do you want to sturdy abroad? It has become a choice for more students in recent years. So what is it like? Here's some experience I can share with you.
Studying abroad can open upeyes. It is so exciting to learn different languages and experience different customs, Experiencing a different educational system is also very interesting. This helps you sec the world in a different way. As the saying goes,"It isto travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books. "
The educational experienceme a lot. I found myself fully in an English language environment. At first, it was hard a clear understanding of all the information in classes. I found that teachers and students would have lots of discussions in class. Studentsto express their opinions during lectures, an open dialog between the teacher and the class. Teachers would ask us to do many role-play exercises in class. The exercises were a lot of fun and helped me understand the knowledge our teachers were explaining.
Studying abroad is not just about studying. It also gives the chances to learn valuable life lessons and helps develop independence. For example, students could not stay in the dormitory(宿舍)for the second year, I had to move out. I went through the of looking for a place to stay, meeting with the building manager and ordering all of the services I needed to move. This experience gave me a lot of because I could deal with problems in a foreign country on my own. And it has helped me continue to be more independent.

In September, my family and I will leave Britain to travel around the world. We1planning the trip in January, and we will be back next June. We will travel for about 10 months and plan to220 countries.
People often have to leave their work to have a trip,3my parents will never do that. They have a4shop. They plan to find someone to help them5all the animals there. But I'll have to do my homework. Mom says we can go online(上网)in most places, so I'll just email my homework to my6.
We have to decide what we need to take. We can't take too many nice clothes and different pairs of shoes, but I know I must take my7pillow(枕头). If I have it, I can8anywhere. Of course, we can't take our cat and I know I will9her. But I'm sure she'll play10with my grandparents. Also, I'll often talk to my friends online. And I will tell them what I see and hear.
I often spend my summer holidays just with my parents. It is quite boring. But last summer holiday was1. Some of my friends came to stay with my parents and me for a week at our summer house. It is in a small beach town called Portsea. They got there by train. It2them three hours.
One morning my friends and I 3to take my parents' boat for a ride. We rowed (划船)4half an hour and found a big cave (山洞). Susan said it could be dangerous to go into it. But Peter said it was okay.5we started rowing again and got in. Then the tide (潮) started. At first we thought we could fight it but we were6. We shouted for7but there was no one around. Susan and I began to cry. Louis told us not to worry because the tide would be out. Because Louis always seemed to know the answer to8, we stopped crying.
Luckily, Louis was right9. After some hours the tide went out. We rowed back home quickly. We didn't10my parents about this special trip. And we were so afraid that we would not have a boat ride again.
