Many people love travelling to different countries, but if you plan to go abroad, you should know how to behave in different situations around the world.

Most travelers enjoy meeting new people, but sometimes you can be rude without saying anything. In Russia, you should never shake hands in a doorway, and if you're travelling in Thailand, never touch people's heads or point your feet at people. When the Japanese meet new people, they like giving business cards-but you should read the card carefully, not just put it in your pocket.

In most countries in Europe, people expect a lot of eye contact when you talk to them, but in many Asian countries, a lot of eye contact seems unfriendly. And in South America, people usually stand quite close to each other when they talk, but in countries like the USA, you need to give people more personal space. Also, it's rude to interrupt Japanese people while they are talking to you. You must wait until they finish before you start speaking.

In restaurants in China, you can leave a bit of food on your plate, it's OK to start smoking before other people finish eating, which you mustn't do in the UK. When in India, remember to eat with your right hand. Also avoid leaving empty bottles on the dinner table in Russia—that's bad luck.

When you're travelling in Asia, if someone invites you to his or her home, don't forget to take off your shoes when you arrive. And if you visit an Arab family's home, don't admire anything valuable because your host will feel he should give it to you as a present.

With so much to think about, it's not surprising that many people prefer going on holiday in their own countries—or you might just decide to stay at home.

I've lived in three Asian cities, and they all surprised (I) on the upside. In the case of China, here's I like it.

It's modern and continues to develop all the time. They have modern (city), and excellent transport facilities, including their unmatched high-speed train network. They have excellent hotels, restaurants, and beautiful parks etc.

There's a feeling of safety and (free) in Chinese cities. There's no need to tell you what to do and you can see from the behavior of the diverse crowd. People just do they want. In most places no policemen (see). Do you know that police in China don't have firearms? They usually do their job silently and behave reasonably, (add) to the security and order.

The Chinese people are friendly. You will always get help even if you can't speak a Chinese word besides nihao , or they can't speak English. They'll spend time and go out of their way (explain) to you how to get somewhere, or how to buy train ticket. They'll (patient) and enthusiastically explain how to get what you need. They'll be positive and practical all the time while helping you.

It's December and I'm having a good time visiting Japan with my friends. Now we're

in a small roasted(烤) sweet potato shop. There are many roasted sweet potato shops in Japan. But this one isn't like the others. A dog is selling the food in it.

The dog's name is Ken-kun. He works from 11:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m. on weekends.

We're lucky that Ken-kun is still at work when we're here. He's happy to see us. He pops out(探出) his head to say" Hello" to us and then watches us take the sweet potatoes and pay for them.

From my friends, l know some more: the money from the sale of roasted sweet potatoes goes to help animals in danger; after work Ken-kun likes to play with children and make them happy. I must say, Ken-kun and the shop make me feel warmer.

Next time you go to Japan, you can go to Ken-kun's shop and buy a sweet potato.

Many people like to travel when they have time off from school or work. They might go to their hometown to see their family, or travel somewhere far. But not everyone does this--some people like to take a "staycation"' better.

A staycation is when you spend your holiday at home or near your home. Some people might travel around their city. Others might try rural tourism (乡村游) in the countryside. People like me prefer (更喜欢) to just stay at home.

I had a staycation of my own over the summer. I slept late every day. I worked on music and played video games. I wasn't too lonely (孤独的) -- I had my cat to play with, and I visited some of my friends around the city.

Traveling is fun from time to time. But it's also nice to just stay at home and relax. It's also cheaper, since you don't have to pay to travel. You can choose to do just about anything you want—or, if you want, just do nothing. There's nothing wrong with that.

I can't believe my trip is over. I arrived in Egypt just two weeks ago! I was with a group from a university. We went to the desert (沙漠) to dig in some old ruins (废墟). I didn't find anything, but I learned a lot. I was treed. But I loved every minute of my trip.

Mona Island is an amazing place to take a vacation. Some of the animals living there can't be found anywhere else in the world. There are beautiful beaches and caves to explore. The sea around the island has colorful fishes.

Mona Island is very small. The government of Puerto Rico takes care of the island and has made it a natural reserve. That means the island's animals and plants are protected from being harmed by people. Mona Island is different from most places because people are not allowed to live there. Only a few park rangers (公园管理员) are able to stay.

The park workers' job is to keep Mona Island safe and beautiful. They insist that rules are followed. One rule is that only 100 people at a time can visit the island. That way, the park rangers can make sure the land and animals remain safe.

On the island, visitors can go to see the Mona Island iguana(美洲热带大蜥蜴)which lives only on Mona Island.

Also, visitors can come to the island to get a close-up view of many kinds of fish and other sea life. They can swim far below the surface. They use special equipment to be able to breathe underwater. Through the clear water, divers can see the bright colors of the fish.

Visitors can also explore caves. Some of the caves ' even have paintings and drawings on the walls. This artwork was made by the Arawak and Taino Indians who lived on the island hundreds of years ago.

After a full day of fun activities, visitors can settle in, listen to the night sounds, and view the stars in the huge sky. Because the island is far away from other places, it is surrounded by darkness, and the stars are easier to see. Visitors say that watching the stars is amazing. It's the perfect end to a perfect day.

Also, life can be difficult for people who live there, because more and more gift shops and cafes are opened instead of those everyday shops. Another main problem is litter. In the parks it is dangerous to animals.

    How can people help?

    All National Parks in England call on the Countryside Code, which tells people how to take care of their environment. If people follow these rules, the National Parks will be protected and give happiness to many people for a very long time.

When you travel in Hong Kong SAR, you must be careful of the traffic rules, because the traffic keeps to the left. Before crossing the street, you must look to the right and then to the left. In the morning and in the evening, when people go to or come from work, the streets are very busy. The traffic is very dangerous. About three months ago, I took my nine-year-old son to Qingdao, Shandong, It was a special trip.

When we got there, my son was very (excite) because it was the first time for him (take) the subway.

London Zoo is one of the top attractions in Britain and it is the world's (最古老的) scientific zoo. It was built over 180 years ago. Now it is run by the Zoological Society of London.

The zoo can be found in the heart of London. (虽然) it lies in the middle of the city, the zoo still has a large (数目) of animals to see, including lions, giraffes, tigers, (猴子) and so on. In fact, there are 750 different groups, making it one of the largest collections of animals in the UK.

Soll is a village in the mountains in western Austria, and the Hotel Post, opened by a local family, is clean and cheap. From the hotel you can see the whole village, the forest and the mountains. The temperatures in summer are usually 20℃ to 25℃ in the daytime, but much cooler by evening.

Guangzhou is a wonderful place for traveling and there are a lot of things to do. You will find many large department stores in the city. You will also find small shops near the train station. In the evening, you can take a boat trip to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Guangzhou from the river. At night, travelers can enjoy eating at food stalls(货摊) on the streets because the food there is cheap and delicious.

Gala Village lies in Tibet. It is famous for its beautiful peach blossoms(桃花) in spring. A large number (介词) tourists all over the country go there during March and April.
