How do actors and actresses memorize hundreds of lines? Memorizing lines takes practice and constant repetition. However, there are a few ways to make the memorization process run smoothly and quickly.

For most performers, there is no quicker way of memorizing lines. To learn lines, an actor must recite the play loud over and over again. Most rehearsals(彩排) encourage this by running through the lines or having a "read through". By the time opening night arrives, most actors have spoken their lines hundreds of times.

Listen to your cast members.

Sometimes inexperienced actors spend rehearsals looking at fellow performers, waiting patiently to say their next line. This will help the actor learn his lines better because the context of the dialogue is absorbed.

Because there is often not enough rehearsal time, many performers find ways to listen to the play's dialogue during everyday activities. They use a tape recorder or an MP3 player to listen to the lines from each relevant scene. Some actors prefer to record the lines of all the characters, including their own.   Others like recording the lines of fellow cast members, and they leave a blank space so that they can insert their dialogue while listening to the recording.

Think positively and don't panic.

Most actors will experience stage fright before the opening night. Actors forget lines now and then. When it happens, however, most of the time the audience never notice. If you forget a line in the middle of your performance, don't freeze. Stay in character. Keep the scene going to the best of your ability. If unfortunately you forget a line once, you will probably never forget that line ever again.

A. Record your lines.

B. Practice makes perfect.

C. Read lines loud and repeat them.

E. Sometimes embarrassment is the toughest method of memorization.

F. Then, they not only listen carefully, but they also speak all of the lines.

As we all know, sleep is very important and necessary. I would love everyone to develop the following four habits to have better sleep without needing the alarm(闹钟)wake-up call.

If you eat much food an hour before you go to bed, your body will hate you, because your body needs time to digest while you are still awake.

When I hear on TV that people just need 30-minute exercise a week, I think that's wrong. Every person should get 30-minute exercise every day. When you exercise, your body uses energy and feels tired. You have to recover from the tiredness.  The harder you exercise your body, the faster it falls to sleep and the better it sleeps.

Turn the TV off. There are a few shows I still watch, but they will never get in my way of (妨碍) sleep. The bedroom is only for sleeping and rest. .

A question to ask yourself: If I didn't have an alarm, what time would I get up? If that time is the time you need to get up, you should probably throw away the alarm. If the time you actually get up is much later than the time you need to get up, make great changes to your way of life and the time you go to sleep. No one should need an alarm.

A. Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.

B. Don't eat any food 4 hours before you sleep.

C. Throw away the alarm.

D. Sleep is one of the most important things in our lives.

E. Your body recovers when you are sleeping.

F. Try to get up as early as you can.

G. Take the TV out of your bedroom.

Questions you should ask yourself when you fail

The more new things we try the more failure we are likely to have.. Experiencing failure can be a learning experience and an opportunity for a fresh start. A good way to begin this process is by asking yourself some tough questions.

1)What can I learn from this?

Take responsibility for what went wrong. OK, so it was not all your fault—but some of it was. Successful people don't make excuses or blame others. So you should look at the experience objectively(客观地).

2)Do I need to acquire or improve some skills?

Did the problem reveal some lack of skill on your part? How could you learn or improve those skills? Perhaps there are books or courses or people you could turn to.

3)Who can I learn from?

Is there someone to whom you can turn for advice? Did a boss, colleague or friend see what happened?. Most people do not ask for help because they believe it to be a sign of weakness rather than strength. It's not. It shows that you are ready to learn and change.

4)What will I do next?

Now draw up an action plan. Will you try something similar or something different? Revisit your goals. Failure doesn't mean you have to give up; maybe you just need to change it in another way.

A. You can now reset your sights on your destination and plan a new course.

B. Make them step stones to future success.

C. They take responsibility for the failure.

D. In fact the only way to avoid failure is to do nothing new.

E. The important thing is how we deal with failure.

F. Make a self-development plan to acquire the skills and experience you need.

G. If they are constructive and supportive then ask them for some feedback (反馈) and guidance.

Each year there is an increasing number of cars on roads and streets as millions of new cars and trucks are produced. One out of every six Americans work at putting together the parts of cars, driving trucks, building roads or filling cars and trucks with gas. Because most Americans find they are using their cars in almost every aspect of their life. The polluted air becomes poisonous and dangerous to health.

That's what several of the large car factories have been trying to do. But to build a clean car is easier said than done. Progress in this field has been slow.

Another way is to take the place of the car engine by something else. Many makers believe that it will take years to develop a practical model that pleases man.

To prevent the world from being polluted by cars, we'll have to make some changes in the way many of us live. Americans, for example, have to cut down on the number of their total cars. The Art of Slow Reading

If you are reading this article in print, chances are that you will only get through half of what I have written. And if you are reading this online, you may not even finish a fifth.  They suggest that many of us no longer have the concentration to read articles through to their conclusion.

So are we getting stupider? Actually, our online habits are damaging the mental power we need to process and understand textual information. Round-the-clock news makes us read from one article to the next without necessarily engaging fully with any of the content. Our reading is frequently interrupted by the noise of the latest email and we are now absorbing short bursts of words on Twitter and Facebook more regularly than longer texts.  But we are gradually forgetting how to sit back, think carefully, and relate all the facts to each other.

A desperate bunch of academics want us to take our time while reading, and re-reading. They ask us to switch off our computers every so often and rediscover both the joy of personal engagement with printed texts, and the ability to process them fully. What's to be done then? Most slow readers realize that total rejection of the web is extremely unrealistic. They feel that getaway from technology for a while is the answer.  Personally, I'm not sure whether I could ever go offline for long. Even while writing this article, I am switching constantly between sites, skimming too often, absorbing too little. Internet reading has become too rooted in my daily life for me to change. I read essays and articles not in hard copy but as PDFs. I suspect that many readers are in a similar position.  You can download a computer application called Freedom, which allows you to read in peace by cutting off your Internet connection. Or if you want to avoid being disturbed by the Internet, you could always download offline reader Instapaper for your iPhone. If you're still reading my article, that is slow reading.

A. The Internet is probably part of the problem.

B. Now some campaigns are advocating slow reading.

C. These are the two findings from the recent research projects.

D. But if you just occasionally want to read more slowly, help is at hand.

E. Some of them have suggested turning their computers off for one day a week.

F. Slow reading can help connect a reader to neighborhood and become popular.

G. Because of the Internet, we have become very good at collecting information.

Often, when you buy a computer, the laptop (手提电脑) bag is overlooked, but it is one of the most valuable things a computer owner can have. Most choose a laptop simply because they want to be able to transport it from place to place.  The bag not only protects the computer from dirt or damage, it can also be used to carry other laptop parts, such as spare batteries, a computer mouse and any portable equipment you may have.

The first thing to consider when choosing the best laptop bag is what style of bag you may want. The most common styles are the briefcase (公文包) and the backpack. The briefcase gives a sense of professionalism while the backpack may be easier to carry much of the time.

A laptop bag should have both a computer sleeve along with several separate sections. The sleeve helps keep the laptop from moving too much in the bag. The sections are good for storage of documents and other things you may want to transport along with the computer;

Another thing when you buy a laptop bag is making sure it is strongly sewed and has a solid bottom. These two things will make your bag much stronger, especially if it is the backpack style. In some cases, it may just be a few months before a computer owner needs a new one. However if made properly, laptop bags can last five or more years.

Buying a cloth bag may be a cheaper option, but leather bags are generally made better and are able to stand up to use much better Besides, leather offers a natural barrier to water when the computer is transported through rain or snow.

A. Obviously the former is more important, though.

B. Each one has their own advantages as laptop bags.

C. Materials also make a difference, especially in the briefcase style.

D. But without a good laptop bag, that becomes much more difficult

E. There are lots of choices when it comes to choosing the best laptop bag.

F. This will prevent them rubbing up against the computer and scratching it.

G. Choosing a cheap bag without these could greatly reduce the life of the bag..

Most people recognise the music John Williams wrote for the film Jaws. As soon as you hear it, you begin thinking that a shark will attack.  On the big screen, Jaws is a scary film. However, if you watch it without the music, it becomes boring. The music tells you to be frightened about what you are seeing. Good film scores always signal how to feel about what is happening on the screen.

He did the music for many films, such as The Dark Knight, Inception, Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator and The Lion King. Zimmer and Williams' have very different styles and ideas for film scores. There are people who do not like William's scores for the Harry Potter films because they stand out too much, while some people do not like Zimmer's scores because they sometimes do not stand out enough.  When you leave a film, you should not be saying, "Wow! Great music!" Instead, you should be saying, "Wow Great film!"

A third, very different kind of film composer is Tan Dun.  Tan started out as a musician for the Peking Opera. However, he fell in love with Western classical music, and started writing classical Western operas that show a strong touch of Chinese music. Like his operas, the scores for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Hero use Chinese musical instruments and styles in a Western classical music score. The music follows all of the rules of most film scores-the purpose is to tell you how to feel about the action in the film, and to help tell the story. However, perhaps because of Tan's background in classical music, his scores can stand alone as works of art without needing a film to support them.

Film scores are almost always form of classical music. However, unlike most classical music they have never been considered high art.

A. They can never reach an agreement.

B. Of course, in many ways, that is not the point.

C. William is not alone in making audience feel so.

D. And that is exactly what you are meant to think.

E.Perhaps with Tan Dun, this will begin to change.

F.Unlike many film composers, he has classical music background.

G.No one can talk about film scores without talking about Hans Zimmer.

Life Lessons

Life is not easy when you are pursuing something worthwhile and ready to learn from the best experiences.  Here are some life lessons which people will learn the hard way in majority of cases.

It takes consistent time and effort to be successful in any area. However, People usually get discouraged when it takes more time than they thought it would. At this time, people refer only to people who have already achieved what you want to be, which most people fail to do. Look at any successful person and you'll notice one thing common in all of them. They took time to learn and mastered their skills like no one else.

Be brave to take the road less travelled. In our whole life, we always want to follow the same path that everyone suggests, do the same things everyone does, take the same career path everyone takes, wear the same clothes everyone wears, and hang out with the same people we work with.  But when you get bored of life, you will realize that you are not meant to do what everyone does and that your destiny is different from anyone else's out there in the world. But the price you pay to realize this is high because it takes a great amount of courage to follow your own path.

You don't have to live your life in a way society wants you to.  Parents sometimes force their children to select a career they don't want because other children have selected that career. Worst of all, people follow them without even asking. There is no harm in old rituals (惯例) and beliefs but when you pursue them before your interest, sooner or later you'll realize that you should first do what you think is right.

However, if you are smart enough to learn early and wish not to waste your precious time learning them the hard way, learn them now and apply it to your life as soon as possible.

A. You have to break the rules sometimes.

B. After all, life lessons are always learned the hard way.

C. There is no elevator to success; you have to take the stairs.

D. The reason why we follow others is that we are scared to fail.

E. It always takes tests and then fails us to learn anything worthwhile.

F. The general rule goes that the harder you try, the greater results you get.

G. Many old beliefs are being performed these days and are followed blindly.

As we all know, in daily life, many people want to get in shape. If you happen to be one of them, where will you get started?

Diet comes first.  Health experts have long noted the importance of physical activities.

Physical activity burns calories—the more calories you consume, the easier it is to control or lose your weight. Besides, it helps to reduce the risk of some diseases, including heart disease, stroke and even some kinds of cancer.

Physical activity is also known to increase the release of endorphins, which help people to reduce pain and feel more happy and peaceful as well.  Some experts believe it's the act of exercising itself. Others say it's the feeling one gets from having met an exercise goal. Either way, the two things work together when it comes to improving one's emotional health.

So exactly how much exercise do you need to do to gain all of these great health effects? Different people, different ideas. Experts say it is easier than you think—one activity is better than none.

To get the most from your exercise plan, you are advised to choose physical activities that you find fun.  What you really like, sometimes, outweighs what is popular among the public.

C. You can release some bad emotions by physical activities.

D. Exercise is a good way for you to maintain physical health.

E. So, if you are not doing anything, now is the time to get started.

How to get better pictures of wildlife

Go on nature observation

Animals make rewarding subjects for photography but are uncooperative models. . Observation will tell you which flowers attract the most bees, which trees are most popular among birds, and which ponds are frequented by frogs, allowing you to set up your camera at a site that has a good chance of success.

Become a part of the landscape

Rural animals are very likely to be frightened if approached by a person, ruining not only the chance for a great photograph, but also the likelihood of them returning to the same spot again. . By contrast, urban animals are more habituated (习惯的) to humans and will probably ignore you if you stay still for long enough.

Choosing one species to concentrate on is a great way to push yourself. Pick a species that is accessible in your local area, even if it is not the most attractive of creatures. Remember, you're looking to create great images, not bad images of great animals. Getting to know that species well will improve your field craft skills, and telling its story will naturally suggest different images to try.

Don't be a fair- weather photographer

Shooting in the middle of the day while the light is bright is pleasant, but rarely produces the best images. . Getting out after dark also brings other rewards. Many animals are more active at night, and newer cameras with high ISOs are making night photography more accessible than ever. . See rain as an opportunity to get creative with reflection, as well as documenting behavior you wouldn't see on a dry day.

A. Focus on one species

B. Remember to use your urban setting

C. Even the wet weather shouldn't keep you indoors

D. To create great images, it pays to learn about their habits

E. Be careful of wild animals since they can be terribly dangerous

As an example, in the foothills of the Snowdonia National Park in the UK,specialist therapy sessions are held to help people who suffer from depression, anxiety and stress. . It's true that for most of us connecting with the natural world definitely lifts our spirits. But the mental health charity Mind says eco-therapy has been recognized as a formal type of treatment that can sometimes be prescribed to someone by a doctor. It doesn't involve taking medication . This natural treatment can take on many forms, including doing yoga in a forest, gardening or even hugging a tree.

Evidence has shown there are many benefits of this "green" therapy. . It's what Dr. Rachel Bragg from the University of Essex calls "psychological restoration". She told the BBC's All in the Mind programme that nature-based therapies should be part of a "toolkit" of care for patients.

. However, it is an option for therapists to use. And as we become more aware of the causes and effects of mental health, it's good to know that help might lie outside our towns and cities, and that nature can give us a helping hand.

Easy, kid-friendly ways to make tomato sauce

You can't beat the convenience of tomato sauce from a jar, but what about when you're desiring something a little more homemade? You don't need to keep an Italian grandmother on speed-dial.  Use two pints (品脱) of tomatoes in the following formulas to make approximately three servings' worth of sauce.

No-cook tomato sauce

Add all the ingredients to a large bowl, sprinkle generously with salt, and stir in a few tablespoons of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 2 or 3 hours at room temperature to allow the salt to soften the tomatoes and meld the flavors.

Cherry tomato pan sauce

Slice the tomatoes in half and thinly slice or mince 1 or 2 garlic cloves (depending on how much you love garlic).  Cover and cook for about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes have mostly softened into a stirrable sauce. Taste and season with salt and pepper, along with any fresh or dried herbs.

Roasted or grilled tomato sauce

Keep the tomatoes whole for this version. Preheat a conventional oven or toaster oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit or preheat a gas grill to medium heat. For oven-roasting, place the tomatoes in a single layer in a baking dish. Roast for about 20 to 25 minutes, or grill for about 15 to 20 minutes, until the tomatoes are starting to burst and the skins are starting to char.

So you can add other ingredients you may have on hand. Add more, or cut back on, garlic depending on your tolerance. Experiment with adding a few shallots instead of an onion. Stir in chopped fresh or dried herbs like basil, oregano, rosemary and parsley. If you like heat, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes.

A. This olive oil-based sauce is ideal for vegetarians.

B. Roughly cut the tomatoes and any fresh herbs on hand.

C. You just need a helpful kid and some tomatoes to start.

E. These sauce techniques are customizable to your family's tastes.
