阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

After study for hours, I went outside and up to the roof nearby for a break and watched people swimming in the sea. It was a sunny day—a blue, cloudless sky over a calm sea. But then, as I looked in the distance. I discovered a series of three or four big waves heading towards the shore. I'd seen these mini-tsunamis (小型海啸)many times before. They were heading at speed in the direction of the swimming area. Most people knew to look out for them, but from the screams that started coming from the beach, I could tell someone was in trouble.

Without thinking, I ran down into the street, holding my bodyboard (冲浪板)on the way and shouted at a stranger to call the coastguard(海岸警卫). My neighbor Tom had heard the screaming as well and was also outside with his bodyboard, so together we rushed to the steps that led down to the sea.

Once we got closer, we discovered the waves had pulled a boy and a girl into the open sea. I knew that the nearest boat would take at least 30 minutes to reach us. I wasn't used to this sort of emergency—I'd never been trained as a lifeguard—but I didn't think twice about trying to save them.

I suppose in a way I wanted to impress everyone; at 19, a deal like that can seem like a good opportunity to show off.

Tom and I dived into the water and it took us 10 minutes to get to them. When we finally reached them, they were almost lifeless with only their heads coming in and out of the water. We could tell they were still alive from their small breaths but it was clear they wouldn't have been able to stay there much longer. I held the boy and pulled him over my board. Tom then moved the girl onto his board.

Paragraph 1:

We discussed pushing them back to the shore, but we were too far out.

Paragraph 2:

That night, word came from the hospital that the two kids were in good condition.

Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks(盯着他们).

One day, Ali took Zahra's shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn't until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali's running shoes. Zahra's school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.

Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.

The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish line drew near, another runner collided(碰撞) with Ali from behind and he crashed to the ground.

The doctors sent my mother home to die. As a fifteen-year survivor of breast cancer, she had suffered two heart attacks when advanced cancer was found in her lung. The doctor told me sadly, "She has a few days, maybe a week. Her heart is weak and unstable. "Mom had struggled to raise three daughters while holding a full-time job, yet worked hard to maintain a warm home for her family. My plan for Mom's final days was simple: she would live with love, and die with grace.

I took mother to my home, small but comfortable, which was a heaven to four cats and a dog. The animals had the run of my house. We equipped the bedroom with an electric hospital bed and an oxygen machine, which frightened the cats. I'd moved their furniture and the cats were annoyed. The dog, on the other hand, an immature dog with bad habits, was excited by all the changes in the house. He jumped up, barking. He is Otto who was not afraid of the hospital bed, the oxygen machine or the medical smells. Nor was he afraid of the weak woman who had scolded him. Otto jumped onto the foot of Mom's hospital bed, and stayed. With the exception of eating and using the litter box, Otto never left Mom's room.

Days passed and Mom started to rally. "Not unusual," I was told, "a rally is often a sign of imminent death(回光返照)" I was heart-broken. But Otto would not give her up so easily. He used her improved condition to reposition himself from the foot of her bed to her side. Her thin fingers found his soft coat. He leaned into her body, as if holding tight the strings of her will to live. Though weak, she petted the dog and would not allowed me to take him. Days turned into weeks and Mom continued to fight.

Paragraph 1

Once, after the nurses had gone for the day, I heard the sound of Mom's voice coming from her room. ……

Paragraph 2

Three years later, Mom together with Otto is still here, medicines and nurses long gone.……

It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West.

We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon. Uncle Paul, my dad's friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos.

His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the night in the guestroom of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast. "The day starts at dawn on my farm, " he said. After breakfast, I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens, while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze(吃草). I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool.

In the afternoon, I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I wasn't going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains. "Don't be late for supper," Uncle Paul cried, "and keep to the track so that you don't get lost!" "OK!" my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven(编织的) blanket spread out upon the ground just for us.

That day, I drove my son to his university, which was about two hours' drive from my home. The school didn't open that day in fact. My freshman son wanted to go to the university a few days earlier so that he could do some preparation work and most importantly, some research work that was related to his courses.

Early that morning, Marie, my wife and I, together with my son Eric started from our home at Calari. Eric was really excited, since he would go to the university that he had been dreaming for since a child. We talked a lot and had a very happy journey. When we arrived at the university, we helped Eric settled in his dormitory, which was empty at the moment. The other students would not arrive until three days later, when the university was scheduled to open. Although felt a little lonely, Eric was happy and even excited for he would have enough time to launch his plan.

After a simple lunch, we had a short visit to the campus. There were old but wonderful buildings, which surely experienced time and weather. The big grasslands in the campus is lush and refreshing. Of course there were some modern facilities. The libraries, the gym and the playground were also attractive and encouraging. We also found a small store, where there were all kinds of items that students would need. I went into the store and bought some water in case we should need them on our way back home. The young man in the store was helpful and gave me his name card, obviously hoping I might need it.

We said goodbye to each other at about four and we directly headed home. At 11 o'clock that evening, I got a call from Eric. He said he suffered serious stomachache and might need to go to the doctor, but no one was around to ask for help. From his voice I could hear that he was really suffering. It seemed that he needed to go to the hospital right now. An ambulance may be too much, while it would took me two hours to get there. What could I do?
